Step 1 — Secure an offer and your CAS
First, accept an offer from a licensed UK student sponsor (university). The university then issues your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), a reference number you need for the visa application.
Check every detail on the CAS — course dates, tuition, and any deposit already paid — because errors here cause delays.
Step 2 — Meet the English and academic requirements
Most courses require IELTS for UKVI or an accepted equivalent. Confirm the exact score your course needs and book the test early.
Keep your academic transcripts and certificates ready, and make sure the names and details match your passport exactly.
Step 3 — Prove your funds correctly
You must show tuition for the first year plus living costs (a set monthly amount depending on whether you study inside or outside London) held for the required number of consecutive days.
Use the correct account type and statement format. Many refusals come from funds held for too few days or in an unacceptable account, so follow the rules precisely.
Step 4 — Complete the Student visa application
Apply online for the Student visa, pay the visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge, and book your biometrics appointment.
Upload clear, correctly named documents. A complete, well-organised file is processed faster and with fewer queries.
Step 5 — Prepare for the credibility interview
Some applicants are asked credibility questions about their course, university choice, and funding. Be ready to explain why you chose your program and how it fits your goals.
Honest, specific answers matter more than rehearsed scripts. A short mock interview helps you stay calm and clear.
Step 6 — Plan for the Graduate Route
After you complete your degree, the Graduate Route lets you stay and work in the UK for up to two years (longer for some doctoral graduates). Use that time to gain experience and explore longer-term routes.
